changing pad

shortly before ramona was born my mom came to visit. we bought some foam and, using some thrifted vintage fabric i had on hand, we (she) sewed me a changing pad cover. a more stylish alternative to what was out there. ramona's diaper station is on top of our credenza in the dining room (like i said: our house is tiny). it works great for us so we don't have to tromp down the stairs to the dresser we have for storing all her clothes that we initially thought would be the changing table. and let's face it, most diapers are changed on the floor, right where the mess-in-in-the-pants happens.

26 people (28 if you include the babies), both friends and family, joined us for a feast.
we gorged and still there were silly amounts of leftovers.
i love my life and have much to be thankful for.

this is my friend amy. she lives down the block from me.
a month or so ago she left her job to take some time for herself. i benefited from this.
she loves babies and i love company so we had a blast hanging out together and having lots of baby time.
she is, very likely, ramona's third favorite person (after jp and i, of course!).
amy got another job and is no longer available during the days and we miss her a lot.

this holiday season, and especially black friday, i urge you to read this ny times article about shopping ridiculousness and big-box shenanigans and consider holding off from the mania. 


and as always, as much as possible, buy local and buy handmade.

let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. it will not lead you astray.

"and the baristas are very good looking." DUH!

this is ramona wearing a sweater that my dear friend, tessa, gave to her on our last visit to chicago.
this is the photo i sent to tessa to tell her ramona loves it and we were thinking of her.
come to find out, tessa had been in labor for two days when she received this photo.
they didn't know if they were having a boy or girl.
a couple hours later, her beautiful little boy was born, naturally in the water.
now i know what sorts of cute clothes i can send him.
